In the midst of so much uncertainty, we found respite there. The compassion and generosity allowed us to be by Jared’s side every day, giving him courage and giving us comfort. Every meal, every kind word, and every thoughtful gesture reminded us that we were never alone.
2024 began as one of the happiest times of our lives. We were expecting our first baby and couldn’t wait to become parents. But in an instant, everything changed. Suddenly, we went into preterm labor at only 23 weeks. Before we could even process what was happening, we were being airlifted from our hometown hospital in Newburgh to Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Westchester. We were terrified and prayed for our baby’s safety.
Soon after, our son, Jared Michael, was born extremely premature and required months of care in the NICU. Our lives fully revolved around the health of our baby boy. Challenges were severe, with too many instances where we were unsure if our baby could battle the illnesses and setbacks.
We felt immense pressure and heartache when we could not be at our Jared’s side. We didn’t know what to do.
The hospital staff suggested we contact Ronald McDonald House, just walking distance from the hospital. We felt such relief. It provided us with a sense of calm knowing we could be just steps away from our baby boy.
But what truly made the House special were the people, the staff and volunteers who treated us like family. Their kindness, encouragement, and genuine care lifted us up when we needed it most. The activities and holiday celebrations brought joy and connection, reminding us that even in hard times, we were surrounded by love and community. The House gave us far more than a place to stay. It gave us comfort, care, and the strength to keep going.
Last September, we celebrated Jared’s birthday at the House as our way of paying forward the generosity our family had received last year. We cooked food and shared it with everyone staying at the House and gave small gifts to the families. It was heartwarming to give back to a place that had offered us so much care and comfort.
In the midst of so much uncertainty, we found respite there. The compassion and generosity allowed us to be by Jared’s side every day, giving him courage and giving us comfort. Every meal, every kind word, and every thoughtful gesture reminded us that we were never alone. We will forever carry gratitude in our hearts for the love, hope, and support this extraordinary community shared with our family. Thank you very much Ronald McDonald House!!
