Meet Our Family

The Hladezos Family

During what had been an incredibly stressful and overwhelming time for our family, we were welcomed into a place that felt warm, supportive, and truly comforting.

From California to Westchester, the Hladezos family traveled nearly 3,000 miles to stay close to their son Ethan during one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Ethan, a West Point cadet, was seriously injured in an accident that ultimately led to a below-the-knee amputation after multiple surgeries to try to save his foot. During his hospitalization, Ethan’s parents stayed 24 nights at Ronald McDonald House Westchester, while Ethan himself spent 9 nights at the House during his recovery — even celebrating his 21st birthday here.

Far from home and facing unimaginable circumstances, the family found comfort, care, and support within the House community. From home-cooked meals and comforting spaces to compassionate staff and volunteers, the Hladezos family says the House became much more than a place to stay.

“Ethan celebrated his 21st birthday at the House. The staff was thoughtful and gracious enough to get him a card and gift. We sincerely appreciate your kindness.” Today, Ethan is back home in California and doing well, but the family says they will never forget the compassion and support they experienced during their stay.

“We are deeply grateful for everything the Ronald McDonald House provided us — comfort, care, and a true home away from home.”
